Sarahjane is helping me stick to this goal of finding something that inspires me each week - and I"m glad she's doing it, because sometimes its hard. And by that I mean it is hard, at the end of a long week (my first full week back at school), when I am tired, exhausted, ?and rather emotionally drained, to think of the beautiful little things that inspired me.
But, events of late have forced me to think about friendship, true friendship. I read this beautiful post on love and a certain part struck me. She talks about prioritizing relationships. You can not be everything to everyone. It is also foolish to continue close relationships with people who do nothing but put you down. You must be selective about the people you chose to cultivate relationships with. If they are not a positive, uplifting influence on your life, they do not deserve the privilege of being one of your close relationships.
That hit me. Hard.
I hang on to people.
I like to think the best of them - and I like to hold on to the good and shut out the bad. But, sometimes it takes just one little text, a single comment, or a memory of the silence for all the bad to flood back. Am I prioritizing my relationships? Do I choose to surround myself with people who uplift and motivate me? Or do I keep people around because they have always been there, despite their determined efforts to put me down?
This is not meant to be a post on bad friends - these recent experiences have empowered me to be more conscientious in choosing my friendships. I am surrounded by so many wonderful people. They are supportive, caring, understanding, fun, and inspiring. They make me want to be a better version of me instead of asking me to make excuses for who I am. These people inspire me with their goodness, their motivation, and their service. They inspire me with their vision, their love, and their talents.
Where ever you are, be someone who inspires others, someone who uplifts them, someone who loves them. Be the kind of person you want to surround yourself with.
How do you choose your friends?
What do you think about prioritizing your friendships?
P.S. I hope you enjoyed those pictures. I had so much fun going through old "friendship" pictures for this post...and these made me laugh the most. They were post preference (a big dance) freshman year. A boa may have been involved in the costumes - hence that one picture (we concluded it is what we would look like as birds). Thank you for humoring me :P I might have to share more of these oldies ... any one up for a pre-blog life recap?Source: http://lavitaebella-elisabeth.blogspot.com/2013/01/inspired-to-be-friends-or-not-to-be.html
