TCL launches 5-inch 1080p Idol X (S950) smartphone with 6.99mm thickness, ultra-thin bezel

TCL launches 5inch 1080p idol X S950 smartphone with ultrathin bezel, $280 price

In a world obsessed with body image, we knew it wouldn't be long before our smartphones would start embarking on fad diets. The latest to show off its lack of curves is TCL's China-centric Idol X (S950), which can squeeze into a 6.99mm-thin pair of jeans. Just like the Alcatel version we saw at MWC, this handset comes with a 1080p display, which is bordered by an equally svelte 1.7mm bezel. Internals-wise, Android 4.2 is running on a quad-core, 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6589T chip, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. On the imagine front, the phone has a hefty 13.1-megapixel primary camera and a two-megapixel front-facing lens. Despite those heavyweight specs, the unit is marked up for a reasonably cheap 1,699 yuan -- $280 to you and me.

30 Years Ago, the Next Silicon Valley Could Have Been in Vermont

30 Years Ago, the Next Silicon Valley Could Have Been in Vermont

There's Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Beach in Los Angeles, Silicon Alley in New York, Silicon Hills in Austin and lately tech boosters in New Orleans have been trying to get the name Silicon Bayou to stick. Everybody wants their region to be the next destination for science and technology-oriented companies to set up shop. But guessing (and promoting) the next big tech region is nothing new. After the rise of Silicon Valley in the late 1970s, it was really anybody's guess.

Making electric vehicles smaller and more comfortable

Making electric vehicles smaller and more comfortable [ Back to EurekAlert! ] Public release date: 17-Jun-2013

The vehicle looks like an electric scooter and zooms by almost without a sound. Its driver masters tight corners first and then safely brakes to a halt. He doesn't need to put his feet on the ground because the two rear wheels provide plenty of stability. Daniel Borrmann is satisfied with the first test drive of the Electromobile City Scooter. The new three-wheeled electric vehicle from the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO in Stuttgart is designed to open up new possibilities for the urban transportation of tomorrow. "Although electric scooters offer many advantages, a lot of motorists either cannot or do not want to make the switch for trips into town. They simply lack the experience of traveling on two wheels," says Borrmann. This is exactly where the Electromobile City Scooter comes in.

Thanks to the additional wheel on the rear axle combined with a special chassis, the electric vehicle manages to be both stable and nimble. To enable it to lean into curves despite having two rear wheels, the IAO researchers suspended the rear wheels separately and supported them in the frame by means of air springs. In fact, the model is scarcely any wider than a regular two-wheeled scooter. Following initial drafts, the scientists worked out detailed specifications, which the engineering firm GreenIng subsequently implemented on a conventional two-wheeled electric scooter. "We demonstrated that our idea works on a real scooter. In the next step, we want to make the vehicle even more comfortable. For example, by means of systems for riding helmet-free, for protecting riders from the elements, and for luggage storage," says Borrmann, summarizing his team's objectives, before getting back on the scooter and zipping off into a new round of tests to the sound of the engine's gentle hum.

Director of Campus Recreation - HigherEdJobs

Institution: Indiana Wesleyan University
Location: Marion, IN
Category:
  • Admin - Athletics and Coaching
  • Admin - Student Affairs and Services
Posted: 06/12/2013
Type: Full Time

PURPOSE

Within the leadership oversight of the Offices of the Executive Vice President and the Department of Athletics, our challenge is to build committed leaders who are agents of change in their world for Christ. This kind of leader is committed to Christ - a Kingdom seeker; to their peers - a compassionate friend; and to the broken world around them - a world changing Christian.

MINISTRY VALUES and STRATEGY

I. The Director of Campus Recreation must be committed to the Lordship of Christ. This not only means having a Biblical Worldview, but it involves a transformation in every area of one's lifestyle. The Director of Campus Recreation should continually seek opportunities to grow. She/he needs to have a strong character through the regular practicing of the spiritual disciplines (e.g. prayer and study of Scripture). The Director of Campus Recreation should have a developed vision for what God can do in the campus community through campus recreation, wellness programming and intramurals. A strategy for ministry is then created for accomplishing this vision. The Director's ministry and service are further enhanced by the skills of efficiency, creativity and deep compassion for students and service.

II. The Director of Campus Recreation's primary strategy for building committed leaders should focus on pouring one's life into several paraprofessional student staff while maintaining general friendships and creating a sense of community with the rest of the campus. The ultimate goal is to reproduce the life of Christ in others (discipleship) so that in turn others can reproduce Christ's life in their friendships. This multiplication effect will enhance the number of students that can be reached for Christ and eventually led to the development of a sense of Christian community throughout the entire campus. This type of community atmosphere creates the greatest opportunity for students to grow and to feel supported.
